Faith Through Song
St. Michael the Archangel is excited to be offering again a Faith through Song program for Religious Education students in Grades K-5. Sessions are planned and led by experienced cantors and teachers in our parish, and focus on a seasonal hymn or song, often incorporating visual art, and imaginative story and dialogue with the students. The intention of the Faith through Song program is not only to familiarize children with songs they will hear and sing at Mass on Sunday, but to experience and appreciate the sacramental reality of Jesus present with those who are baptized “when they pray and sing.” (Vatican II, Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy § 7) Faith through Song’s focus on liturgical formation and helping children learn how to worship is a vital component of St. Michael the Archangel's Religious Education curriculum.
Typically your child’s class will have a 10-15 minute Faith through Song lesson once a month. Children will receive a handout for each lesson that they will bring home to share with you and their family. Parents are encouraged to spend some time talking to your child (and maybe even sing with them!) about what they learned during their lessons.
This fall, the children will learn a hymn devoted to Mary for October, the month of the Rosary, and a Litany of the Saints in November for the feast of All Saints Day. They will also participate in our second annual group Advent Sing of carols and hymns for the Christmas season in December.
St. Michael the Archangel’s Faith through Song team:
· Abby Adamson, coordinator and instructor (Tues 4:30)
· Anita Roudebush, instructor (Wed 4:30)
· Becky Kessler, instructor (Wed 6:15)
